Overview
Extended acupuncture is our acupuncture treatment given a full 90 minutes. The approach is the same: ultra-fine, sterile needles placed at points selected for you, guided by classical meridian theory and careful hands-on technique. What changes is the time.
The extra time lets your practitioner address more than one concern in a single visit, work more gradually where you are sensitive, and give you a longer period of quiet rest. It suits anyone who wants an unhurried session, or whose needs are more involved than a standard visit allows.
What to expect
Your visit begins with a private consultation about how you have been feeling since your last treatment, or about your health and goals if this is your first. Your practitioner then places single-use needles at the points chosen for you, adjusting them by hand throughout treatment to your comfort and response.
With 90 minutes, there is room to treat in more than one position, for example on your back and then on your front, and to combine acupuncture with supporting therapies such as cupping, gua sha or moxibustion where they suit you. You will also have a longer rest with the needles in place, often with red and near-infrared light therapy.
Who it suits
Extended acupuncture may be a good fit if you have several concerns you would like addressed together, if you are working through a long-standing or complex condition, or if you find that a longer rest helps you settle more deeply.
If you are not sure which length is right for you, ask at your visit or when you book. Your practitioner can recommend a standard or extended session based on your needs.
